Guliel vs Xero (2026): a Xero alternative with its own ledger
Guliel and Xero are both accounting software with a double-entry general ledger. Xero is a mature cloud accounting product with bank feeds, bank reconciliation, a chart of accounts you configure, fixed assets and a large network of accountants and connected apps. Guliel is accounting and finance-operations software that runs invoicing, expenses, purchasing, stock, payroll, reporting and a double-entry general ledger on one engine. If bank reconciliation is the centre of your bookkeeping, Xero does it today and Guliel does not. You don't have to choose on day one: Guliel can run beside Xero while you try it.

Where Guliel differs: one engine
Xero follows the familiar model: an accounting core, plus apps and connectors for capture, advanced inventory, workflows and, in some markets, payroll. Guliel keeps everything in one data model. Invoices, receipts, expenses, purchase orders and payslips are one document object with a type and a direction, and the ledger is computed from the same document lines as receivables and payables, so the trial balance and the open balances agree by construction.
- A scanned receipt, or a bill from a connected Gmail, Outlook, IMAP or POP3 inbox, is read with OCR and waits for a person's approval before it reaches the ledger (live).
- A supplier invoice links to the purchase order it bills, and the order moves to invoiced (live).
- Recording a payment can issue the receipt in the same step, and payroll posts to the ledger (live).
- A supplier you invite by email can accept with its own Guliel organisation, see the purchase orders you send and invoice against them (live). See suppliers.
Finance doesn't need more connectors. It needs one engine.

Pick Xero when…
Your accountant closes your books in Xero and the setup works. You reconcile bank feeds every week. You need a chart of accounts you configure yourself, a fixed-asset register with depreciation schedules, payroll in a market where Xero runs it and Guliel doesn't, or returns filed from the software. Those are Xero's strengths.
Pick Guliel when…
You want invoicing, expenses, purchasing, stock, payroll and the ledger on one engine instead of a core plus apps. You buy from suppliers as much as you sell. In Singapore, you want CPF, SDL and FWL calculated in the system that issues your GST invoices. You're in Israel and issue Hebrew tax documents (חשבונית מס, חשבונית מס/קבלה, קבלה), or you're moving off Morning or another Israeli tool through the uniform file (מבנה אחיד). Starting beside Xero, then moving over
- Connect. Issue documents, capture expenses and run purchase orders in Guliel while Xero stays in place. Guliel keeps its own ledger from the first document; export it as CSV and invite your accountant with their own role (how Guliel works with accountants) (live).
- Automate. Automations take over routine steps, such as acting on overdue invoices or low stock (live).
- Migrate when ready. There is no Xero importer. Export contacts from Xero to CSV, rename the headers to Guliel's template (Name, Tax ID, Email, Phone, Address, City) and upload them as customers; a column check and a staged review run before anything is saved (live). FAQ
Does Guliel have a general ledger like Xero?
Yes. Guliel keeps a double-entry general ledger on a fixed chart of accounts. Documents, payments and payroll post to it, manual journal entries must balance, and it produces a trial balance, balance sheet, income statement, cash flow and general ledger report, with a books lock date and CSV export. Custom accounts are planned. Bank feeds and bank reconciliation are not built yet.
Can Guliel replace Xero?
It can, if your bookkeeping doesn't depend on bank reconciliation, a chart of accounts you configure, fixed-asset schedules or returns filed from the software. Xero covers those today and Guliel does not. You can also run Guliel beside Xero while you adopt it, and move over when you're ready.
Can I import my data from Xero?
Not directly; a Xero connector is planned. Export contacts from Xero to CSV, match the headers to Guliel's customer template and upload; a column check and review run before anything is saved. Opening balances go in as a manual journal entry. Invoice, bill and payment history is not imported.
What happens to my accountant?
They stay in charge of the books. Invite them with their own role. Captured expenses wait for a person's approval before they reach the ledger, and a manager sets the lock date. Guliel does not file tax returns; an accountant sign-off queue and GST/VAT return preparation are planned.
How does pricing compare?
Xero has no free plan and its prices vary by region. Guliel publishes $0, $20 and $99 per organisation per month, not per seat. Paid plans are not on sale yet.
Does Guliel send InvoiceNow or Peppol e-invoices?
Not yet. Guliel issues PDF documents in the formats of 39 countries. Structured e-invoice output, including Peppol BIS Billing and an InvoiceNow listing for Singapore, is planned.
What about AI and MCP?
Both have an AI assistant and an MCP server. Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or any MCP client connects to Guliel through OAuth 2.1. AI acts within the signed-in user's role and scopes, and the engine applies the same rules to AI as to people: numbering at issue, totals from line items and balanced double entries.
