Move from Xero. Keep the history.

Move from Xero. Keep the history.

Xero is the best global accounting tool. It's also $20+ a month with no free tier, the UI fights you on simple invoicing tasks, and you're paying for a full ledger you may not need. If invoicing, expenses, and supplier flow are the core of your day — and you only touch the ledger once a quarter when your accountant logs in — Xero is doing too much. Move in. Keep the history. Run lighter.

What we import

Two routes, depending on your Xero plan and how much you want automated.

Source What comes across
Xero API (OAuth) Contacts, invoices (sales + bills), payments, products / items, tax rates, multi-currency invoices
Xero CSV export Contacts, invoices, products, payments — separate CSV per list

Invoice numbers preserve. Multi-currency stays multi-currency — we keep the original currency and the FX rate at issue. Tax rates per line map to Guliel's per-organization tax configuration. Bills (your AP side) come across into the suppliers module — they become the supplier invoices you reconcile against orders going forward.

What we don't import

Where Xero earns its money, we deliberately don't go.

  • Chart of accounts and the general ledger. Guliel is not full double-entry accounting. Your COA, journals, and account balances stay in Xero. This is intentional — see /compare/xero for the full honest split.
  • Bank feeds, bank reconciliation state, and rules. Bank connections live with Xero's data partners. We don't recreate them.
  • Manual journals and adjusting entries. No GL on our side.
  • Fixed assets register and depreciation schedules.
  • Payroll (Xero Payroll in supported regions). We don't do payroll. Use Gusto, Deel, or your country's equivalent.
  • Tracking categories — limited. Simple category-to-tag mappings work; multi-level tracking needs a manual review pass.
  • Quotes that never converted to invoices — limited. We import quote-to-invoice conversions; orphan quotes need a CSV pass.

If something on your Xero account isn't on either list, ask. We'd rather flag it before you click than after.

Estimated time to migrate

Most orgs under 5,000 invoices migrate in under 30 minutes. The API route is the fastest — connect, pick the date range, preview, commit. For organizations with 5,000–50,000 invoices, expect 1–2 hours plus a follow-up reconciliation report that shows contact balances before and after. Multi-entity Xero setups (you've got several Xero organizations under one login) map cleanly to Guliel's multi-org model: one Xero org becomes one Guliel organization, billed per org, never per seat.

Start the move

Connect Xero, scope what comes across, preview the result, commit when it looks right. Migration is free on every plan. Pricing for what comes after is at /pricing — Free, $20, or $99 per organization. Once you're inside, /invoicing walks through the country-by-country compliance we cover today.

FAQ

Will my Xero invoice numbers carry over?

Yes. We preserve the existing sequence and continue from where Xero left off.

Do I lose my chart of accounts?

You don't lose it — it stays in Xero. We don't import it because we're not full double-entry accounting. If you need that, run Xero on a downgraded plan in parallel, or keep your accountant logging into Xero for year-end while you operate daily out of Guliel.

What about multi-currency?

Multi-currency invoices import with their original currency and the FX rate at issue. Guliel handles country-specific document compliance across 38+ countries — see /invoicing.

Will my Xero bills come across as supplier invoices?

Yes. Bills land in Guliel's supplier module. Going forward, you can issue orders to those suppliers from inside Guliel and have them invoice you back via the bidirectional supplier flow — something Xero doesn't do natively.

Is migration free?

Yes. Migration costs nothing on any plan. You only pay if you exceed Free-tier limits (200 invoices / month, 100 expense scans, etc.).

Can I keep using Xero alongside Guliel?

Yes. Many teams do for a quarter or two — Xero for the ledger and accountant handoff, Guliel for daily invoicing, expenses, and suppliers. There's no exclusivity. Most teams retire Xero after a year when they realize they only logged in for year-end.

What about my Xero add-ons?

Add-ons that wrote into Xero (e.g. e-commerce integrations) stay connected to Xero. For ongoing operations, Guliel's integrations cover the common ones natively — see our integration tiers in the product overview.
