Move from Wave. Keep the history.

Move from Wave. Keep the history.

Wave is the best free invoicing tool — if you're in the US or Canada. If you're outside those two markets, you've been working around it: forcing currencies that aren't yours, sending compliant documents Wave can't natively produce, paying Wave Pro for features you only half need. The reason you're here is that your business outgrew Wave's geography. We import the data so you don't have to start cold.

What we import

Wave exports clean CSVs from the Reports and Settings → Data export screens. We read all of them.

Source What comes across
Customers CSV Names, email, billing address, currency preference, tax exemption
Invoices CSV Invoice number, issue date, due date, line items, totals, status
Payments CSV Payment date, amount, currency, linked invoice, payment method label
Expenses CSV Date, vendor, category, amount, tax, attached receipt reference
Products / Services CSV Name, description, default price, currency, tax rate

Invoice numbers preserve. The customer-to-invoice-to-payment chain reconnects on import — open balances will match Wave on the day you export. Multi-currency invoices keep their currency.

What we don't import

Be clear about gaps before the click.

  • Wave Payroll history. Wave Payroll is US/Canada-only and we don't do payroll. Use Gusto or your country's equivalent.
  • Bank connections and reconciliation state. Bank feeds in Wave stay with Wave's data providers. We don't recreate them.
  • Receipt images embedded in Wave's mobile app — limited. Wave's CSV exports the metadata; for the image files themselves, you can re-forward receipts to your Guliel expense inbox and the OCR / DocAI pipeline will re-extract vendor, amount, and tax automatically. Going forward, that's how Guliel does receipts anyway — see /invoicing.
  • Wave Advisors annotations — limited. Anything your Wave-Advisor accountant added inside Wave stays in Wave.
  • Recurring-invoice templates — partial. We import the templates, but the underlying schedule is recreated as a Guliel automation on first save.
  • Full general ledger / journal entries. Guliel isn't full double-entry. If you used Wave for actual accounting, you'll lose the ledger view — be deliberate about that.

If anything specific to your setup isn't on these lists, ask. We'd rather flag it now than fail mid-import.

Estimated time to migrate

Wave migrations are fast — the CSV format is well-structured and we've tuned the import for it. Most orgs under 5,000 invoices migrate in under 30 minutes including a spot-check. Mid-size orgs at 5,000–50,000 invoices run 1–2 hours with a reconciliation report that compares customer balances pre- and post-import. Multi-org users (you ran several Wave businesses under one login) map one Wave business per Guliel organization. Billed per org, never per seat.

Start the move

Export the CSV bundle from Wave, drop it into Guliel's migration screen, preview, commit. Migration is free on every plan including the free tier. Pricing for what comes after lives at /pricing. If you're still comparing, the side-by-side at /compare/wave is the honest version — including where Wave still wins (built-in payments in US/CA, full free accounting in those two countries).

FAQ

Will my Wave invoice numbers carry over?

Yes. The Wave invoice sequence preserves; Guliel continues from your existing latest number.

What if I'm in the US or Canada — should I still move?

Maybe. Wave is genuinely good if you're US/CA-only and want free double-entry accounting plus built-in payment processing. Guliel wins when you operate across borders, manage multiple organizations, need supplier flow, or want the AI companion. Read /compare/wave for the honest split.

Do payments from Wave's payment processor migrate?

Payment records (date, amount, linked invoice) migrate. The Wave Payments processor itself doesn't — that stays with Wave. Going forward, you connect your existing payment rail; built-in payments in Guliel are roadmap, not shipped.

Will my receipts come across?

Receipt metadata yes. Receipt images: limited via CSV. For ongoing operations, you forward receipts to a configured email address and Guliel's OCR extracts vendor / amount / tax automatically — see /invoicing.

Is migration free?

Yes. Migration costs nothing on any plan. You only pay once you exceed Free-tier limits.

Can I migrate just one Wave business and leave the others?

Yes. You scope per-business at migration time. Each Wave business maps to a Guliel organization, billed per organization, not per user.

What about my accountant who's used to Wave?

Reports export in accountant-handoff format (revenue by month, AR aging, tax by jurisdiction, expense by category). If your accountant is also a Wave Advisor, expect a conversation — Guliel doesn't have an advisor program. Most accountants are fine with the CSV / PDF report exports.
